IdentifierMaps_247bDate1833DescriptionStreeter (Bibliography, no. 1134B) gives an excellent account of this map. Overall, Burr's map represents a great improvement over previous Texas maps. It is the second map to show all of Texas, preceded only by the greatly inferior Hooker map of 1833 (see no. 241).
Burr uses Thompson's configuration of Galveston Bay as the model for the bay on the main map, thereby giving it a better form than do Austin, 1830 (see no. 236), and Hunt and Randel, 1839 (see no. 278). Three settlements appear in the vicinity of the bay: Harrisburg, Lynchburg, and Anahuac. The Bolivar Channel is labeled "Galveston Inlet 14 to 18 feet."
