IdentifierMaps_249bDate1835DescriptionThis map locates the three colonization grants controlled by the Galveston Bay and Texas Land Co., which was organized in New York on October 16, 1830. With the repeal of the restrictive Mexican immigration law in 1834, the company began to advertise for colonists. Several promotional pieces, including David Woodman's Guide to Texas Emigrants, were published. (Apparently Woodman was the company's Boston agent.) This map appeared earlier on a broadside map published by the company (Streeter, Bibliography, no. 1164).

The map shows an oversized but well-formed Galveston Bay, similar to that on Burr's map of 1833 (see no. 247) and also closely following Thompson's map. Four settlements are located on or near the bay: Harrisburg, Lynchburg, Liberty, and Anahuac.
