New Washington, Tex.

New Washington was a town established by James Morgan and the New Washington Association at the point where Buffalo Bayou entered San Jacinto Bay. The company created the town with the intention of securing it as the capital of Texas. They were able to attract a few Scottish Highland settlers before the Texas Revolution broke out. The Mexican Army under Santa Anna destroyed the town. James Morgan returned to the area and rebuilt his home, but the town could not compete with neighboring Houston.
