Jean Pierre Isidore Alphonse Dubois de Saligny was a French diplomat to Texas. He entered diplomatic service in 1831. He was serving as secretary to the French mission in the US when he was sent to Texas to investigate the new republic. His reports led to France recognizing Texas independence, and Saligny was appointed charge d’affaires to Texas. He resided in Austin where he became embroiled in a long feud with hotelier Richard Bullock in an incident called the Pig War. He left Austin in 1841 in protest of his treatment by the Texas government, and though he left without permission of his superiors, the French diplomatic service supported Dubois and demanded an apology. Secretary of State Anson Jones and the new Sam Houston administration managed to smooth things over, though Dubois never returned to Austin and performed his duties from Galveston or Louisiana. He later served as French minister plenipotentiary to Mexico and encouraged French intervention. He died in France in 1888.
