Huston was the Quartermaster General of the Texian Army during the Texas Revolution. He was born in New York in 1799 and came to Texas in the early 1830s and opened an inn and stagecoach line in San Augustine. In 1835 he was appointed as quartermaster of the Texian Army and given the rank of colonel. His main duties were securing supplies for the army, a near impossible task given the lack of funds in the Texas government. He often used his own funds to provide rations to soldiers and complained to Texas officials about their lack of support. He resigned in 1837 and returned to San Augustine to resume his business. He died in 1861 in Louisiana while on a trip back from Washington, D. C..
