Jack was an attorney and legislator, coming to Texas as part of Stephen F. Austin’s second colony. He was born in Georgia in 1808 and practiced law in Alabama before moving to Texas in 1830 with his older brother William, receiving a land grant from Austin. He was involved in the Anahuac Disturbances, partnering with William B. Travis to oppose efforts my Mexican officials to enforce customs laws. He was elected as a Congressman from Brazoria in 1837 and later accepted appointments as district attorney on the First and Sixth Judicial districts under President Lamar. He died of yellow fever in Houston in 1844. Jack County was named in honor of Patrick and his brother William.
