James Knight

Knight was a merchant and early settler to Texas. He was born in North Carolina in 1787 and first came to Texas in 1821 as a member of the Long Expedition and returned as a member of Austin’s Colony. He established a trading post and ferry at Fort Bend and was part of a committee of merchants petitioning the Texas government to fortify Galveston and the entrance to Matagorda Bay. He died in 1858.
