Pierpont was a merchant and politician. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1797 and came to Texas in 1835 or 1836, settling first in Shelby County before partnering with John White of New York on a mercantile business in Houston and New York. After his business dissolved, he worked as an agent J. P. Collins and McKinney and Williams of Galveston, then moved to farming, settling at Pierpont Place in DeWitt County, where he also served as postmaster. He died in 1866.
