Turner was a soldier and politician. He was born in Massachusetts in 1800 and moved to Alabama to open a lumber business. He went to Texas in 1835 for his health and joined the fight for independence. He participated in the fight at Gonzalez in 1835, the siege of Bexar, and the Battle of San Jacinto. After independence, he was assigned to Galveston where he was an infantry commander and later commandant. After discharge, he took up farming and cattle ranching on Cedar Bayou before settling on the Navidad River in Lavaca County. He served as a representative for two terms. After the Civil War, he moved to Gonzalez where he died in 1877.
