James Taylor White

White was a cattle rancher. He was born in Louisiana in 1789 and came to Texas in 1828, driving a herd of longhorn cattle to Turtle Bayou and settling there. He ran a highly successful cattle business, raising thousands of head of cattle on his ranch and selling them through New Orleans. He died of cholera in 1852.
