IdentifierMaps_421aDate1891DescriptionThis plat map of Galveston County shows both the original land grants and subsequent subdivisions. Trimble and Lindsey's survey of west Galveston Island appears, with lot numbers given for each of the tracts.

Designed to promote investments and development in the county, the map shows a number of proposed town schemes that were popular in the Galveston Bay area at the end of the nineteenth century: South Galveston (see no. 427), North Galveston (see no. 439), Port Bolivar (see no. 552), and West Galveston. The new town of Arcadia appears (see no. 415), but there is no sign yet of Alta Loma, which was founded about 1893, when it was called Highland. Here, that name is given to the town of La Marque.
