The new seawall runs along the Gulf shore from Thirty-ninth Street to Sixth Street, cuts north across the island, and terminates at the south jetty, just east of the medical school. In the western part of the city, a levee extends north from the seawall as a partial barrier to flooding from the unprotected western end of the island.
