The Rosenberg Library Map Collection consists of approximately 1,200 maps donated or purchased by staff of the Galveston and Texas History Center or Rosenberg Library since its opening in 1904. The collection consists of original and facsimile maps, charts, and surveys pertaining to Galveston, Galveston Island, Galveston County, Texas, the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the Caribbean Sea and adjacent coasts. Included are atlases related to the history of exploration and navigation. These maps show Galveston Bay from 1725 onward, Spanish exploration of the Americas, and the development of Texas.
