IdentifierMaps_25bDate1643DescriptionThese maps are from the 1643 edition of the Mercator-Hondius Atlas, Amsterdam. The Mercator-Hondius Atlas was the most important and influential of early-seventeenth-century atlases. Its core was Mercator's Atlas from 1585, which was first republished in 1606 by Hondius. The latter supplemented it with a host of new maps. This West Indies sheet was one of the new Hondius maps, and it continued to be included, unaltered, in all subsequent editions down to the last in 1638 [1643?].
