IdentifierMaps_46aDate1670DescriptionThis map is from the 1670 edition of Pieter Goos' Zee-Atlas ofte Waterwaereldt, Amsterdam. It is the first of three different charts of New Netherland that Doncker published between 1660 and 1688, and the only chart contemporary with the actual Dutch possession of the New World colony. The chart shows the United States Atlantic coast from Cape Hatteras north to Cape Ann. The National Maritime Museum Catalogue (volume 3, numbers 84-88) lists several editions of the atlas (1661-1676), all which contain this map.Language NoteDutchSubjectChesapeake Bay (Md and Va)--MapsIndigenous peoples in artNew England--MapsShips in artVirginia--MapsCopyright StatementNo Copyright – Non-Commercial Use OnlySize44.5x53.5 centimeters.CartographerHendrick Doncker
