This is the fourth issue of at least seven, and the second issue to show the results of the Treaty of 1783. Carington Bowles first issued this map in 1768 to illustrate the territorial changes in America resulting from the treaty ending the French and Indian War (1763). In February, 1783, he reissued the map (third issue) to show the sweeping changes resulting from the American Revolution. In the 1783 issue and in this issue of the following year, the new nation of the United States includes all present U.S. territory east of the Mississippi River except east and west Florida.
